A visit to Virginia wine country must be at the top of your list! If you’re looking for a wonderful weekend getaway close to home, Nelson County is the perfect destination. What might you find here? Let’s start with wineries. Lots and lots of wineries. And then there are the breweries. Awesome venues started by best friends, bought by mega-industries, and only getting better.

Nelson County offers that. Start off with our amazing breakfasts (our guests words, not just ours) and end with lunch or dinner at any one of the local restaurants that focus on food. Basic Necessities landed in Nelson County 25 years ago because the owner moved here from Paris and was looking for her three basic necessities: wine/cheese/wine. Brilliant! Vito’s (just two miles up the road) is a family owned Italian restaurant that specializes in pizzas and pastas but serves up amazing specials every night and our guests love coming home with leftovers for our common-fridge. The three biggest breweries near us offer not only serious beer, but fantastic menus with memorable food. Heaven on earth!
