There is undeniably something special about the holiday season, and its even more undeniably special in the midst of Virginia’s wine country!
Last year at the Orchard House Bed & Breakfast, we were extra anxious to unpack all our holiday moving boxes and jump into decorating this incredible property. To add to the anticipation, our local Nelson County magazine, Blue Ridge Life, called to schedule a photo shoot featuring our Christmas decor. Imagine the excitement (and sheer panic) of us trying to meet the photo deadline while continuing to run our active B & B. I’ll never forget guests checking in amongst all the boxes stacked in the entryway. They proclaimed that they had just left the Biltmore Estate, where they were also unpacking boxes and beginning to decorate. Of course there was a minor detail that was different: the Biltmore had a staff of almost thirty people dedicated to quickly decorating for the holidays. Oh my.
Persistence, caffeine, and a vision of holiday splendor all paid off and we were able to put the finishing touches on both houses quickly. The magazine shoot was a fun session for all, and we were very proud of how everything came together. The added bonus: we were booked every single weekend in November and December! Guests commented that it was so much fun to come to a venue that was all ready for Christmas and they didn’t have to do one thing except enjoy it all!
As usual, there is a plethora of activity available when visiting the Orchard House Bed & Breakfast during the holiday season. All of the local wineries and breweries are open and anxious to share their concoctions. The hiking is still wonderful, (pack extra layers), and last year the weather was perfect for a crisp trail excursion minus snow. Check with us for special events and activities in the area during the holiday season, there are always many to choose from. Nearby, the Charlottesville mall area is decorated beautifully and a perfect spot for a lunch or dinner after browsing the unique shops.
And just like the rest of the year when you visit us, you can choose to do several things or actually nothing at all. Enjoy a local bottle of wine while relaxing around our new gas fire pit. Stay cozy inside gazing at the sparkling lights of the Christmas tree in our living room. Check out Deb’s personal collection of Santa’s of all shapes and sizes. Sip Trager Brother’s coffee on our front porch, enjoying the winter-version of the Blue Ridge Mountains! Walk the newly cleared path around our 14-acre property, and return to a cup of hot chocolate in our dining room.
Regardless of how you desire to spend your holiday season visit at the Orchard House Bed & Breakfast, we and the rest of Nelson County will be ready to make it a memorable and magical getaway!
